Two Central European capitals compared on real local prices. Warsaw is meaningfully cheaper than Prague — but the gap is entirely in housing and groceries.
Prague and Warsaw are the two most-requested comparison points when someone with a remote income is picking a Central European base. For years Prague had the mindshare — cheaper than Vienna, prettier than Warsaw, walkable, well-connected. That reputation held up while Warsaw was still remembered as post-industrial and gray. Both cliches are out of date in 2026: Warsaw is now a genuine tech hub with strong expat infrastructure, and Prague's rents have crept up enough that the price gap between the two is no longer obvious. We pulled scraped numbers from Sreality, Otodom, local supermarkets, and each city's transit operator to see how the gap actually breaks down.
Warsaw runs about 13 % cheaper than Prague on full monthly cost — but the gap is almost entirely rent and groceries. Restaurants, transit, and utilities are effectively identical, which flips the usual narrative that Poland is dramatically cheaper than Czechia.

Warsaw comes out cheaper by about 13 % on the full monthly total, but the shape of the gap matters more than the headline number. Housing accounts for most of it — a Prague 1BR in the centre runs 25 % more than Warsaw's equivalent, and groceries add another quarter. Everything else (restaurants, transit, utilities, healthcare) is basically the same. If you eat out constantly and don't care about square meters, the two cities cost you the same. If you cook at home and value apartment space, Warsaw wins clearly. The non-price factors — architecture, walkability, tourist saturation, English coverage — favour Prague; Warsaw's edge is a bigger tech scene and lower rent for the same infrastructure.
